IPE Deck & Teak Furniture — Deck & Furniture Restoration
Project Overview
A dual-surface restoration project in Mount Pleasant's historic Old Village neighborhood — combining IPE deck restoration with teak outdoor furniture refinishing. The homeowner wanted both the deck and their substantial teak furniture collection restored to match, creating a unified premium outdoor living space.
The Challenge
IPE and teak require different treatment approaches despite both being tropical hardwoods. The IPE deck had silvered from UV exposure and needed oil restoration, while the teak furniture had developed a heavy patina with some surface checking. Coordinating the finishes to complement each other — rather than just matching — required careful product selection.
Our Process
- 1
Separate assessment of IPE deck and teak furniture conditions
- 2
Deck: deep cleaning, light sanding to open the dense IPE grain
- 3
Deck: marine-grade IPE oil applied in two coats with full curing between
- 4
Furniture: gentle cleaning, careful sanding, and teak-specific oil application
- 5
Final staging of furniture on restored deck for unified presentation
The Result
The combined restoration created a stunning outdoor space where the warm tones of freshly oiled IPE complement the restored teak furniture perfectly. The Old Village setting — mature trees, waterfront proximity — provides a dramatic backdrop for the finished project.
